Info "Outstanding exotic-composite trance ambient groove music. Dream Jungle is the brain transmission of Bay Area electronic-music artist Dwight Loop. Chilled body beats and fourth-world undercurrents weave with sensual siren-like voices, trance chants and vocal incantations from the Bay Area's Taressa Bell. This release oozes with the translucent atmosphere of a dusty crimson sunset at Burning Man, coming on in well-proportioned waves as the tribes of modern man spin and twirl into a coil of perfect trance." - Steve Roach (www.steveroach.com);
Dream Jungle "Lucid" is exotic, trance-tribal electronica. "Lucid" CD was the project's debut recording in 2008, featuring Loop on all electronics, beats, and atmospherics, with Taressa Bell contributing chants and incantations.
"Red Night" is the second just released CD, featuring Dwight on all music with Tuvan throat singer Mark Seelig (Germany) on selected cuts. "Red Night" cuts through the ambient haze with everything from dark ambient grooves, world-fusion electronica, to shamanic cave grooves.
Is that your real name? : Yes. Given birth name. Really. German father, Dutch mother. mmmm...
Loop? Loop is a take-off on the early electronic music term, right?: Yes. Endless one, at that. Interested in tape loops the first time I heard them!
Grew up in 50s and 60s, so heard electronic music on radio then, and played with Ampex tape decks, the big ones, at an early job at age 16 in radio! The early tape-electronic stuff caught my ear immediately. Always have enjoyed unusual, ear-captivating vibrations!
Why, this Dream Jungle music sounds so "modern.": Modern in the way of the shamanic trance experience, which has always fascinated me, those trance-like states induced by music. From sequencing electronics to world-jazz-fusion-to-techno-tribal-rave scene, through today's amazing mix of electronica and other sub-categories, I have always enjoyed good music no matter the age of the person making it! From Cage, to Klaus Schulze, to Steve Reich, to the Orb and beyond. It's all a beautious expression of innovation and music-elation.
I also perform more space-ambient music live, such as "Hunab Ku" Trilogy at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco in 2006 and at two major "2012" conferences.
You did a radio show on public radio for 20 years? "Earwaves": Yes. "Earwaves" was on from 1979-1986, one of the pioneering total "new and experimental" radio programs, I must say. There was John Schaeffer at WNYC for new music, Charles Armikanian on KPFA in Berkeley, as well in that genre on the West Coast, and soon came others l like John DiLiberto's show in Pennsylvania and Hearts of Space in California, as well, playing "space and progressive" music. It was a great time for new music on the radio, and still continuing today. My show "Earwaves", which very well could have been the most diverse of all of them, ran on KUNM-FM in Albuquerque, NM and on KSFR-FM for 8 and 5 years respectively, with other stations carrying "Atmospheres" "The Next Wave" of my specialty shows on KLSK-FM, KBAC-FM, and KSFR-FM, Santa Fe, NM for more than 4 years.
